Why your company or group needs The Health Advocate!

Businesses that have instituted activity-based workplace wellness programs have enjoyed $3-$5 return on every dollar invested in the form of decreased health care costs, decreased absenteeism, increased productivity, decrease employee turnover, and reduced insurance costs. - US Census Bureau, Current Population Reports

The best part is… our program is FREE!

“Absenteeism is more than a human resources issue. Unless organizations start proactively addressing absenteeism, this trend will most likely accelerate as the workforce ages…Research suggests that a more positive work environment lowers absentee rates. If organizations struggling with absenteeism could find a way to improve their work environment, it could help curb their absenteeism. We recommend businesses and public-sector organizations put programs in place to address absenteeism, including health and wellness programs to deal with job stress."

Missing in Action: Absenteeism Trends in Canadian Organizations- The Conference Board of Canada, 2013

Did you know…

  • 80% of chronic pain sufferers are between the ages of 24 and 64.
  • Research shows that 60-90% of doctor visits are stress-related
  • Health care expenditures are nearly 50% greater for workers reporting high levels of stress.

This is concerning ...

One in four adult Canadians and one in 10 children have clinical obesity, meaning six million Canadians living with obesity may require immediate support in managing and controlling their weight. As a leading cause of type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke, arthritis and cancer, the condition impacts those who have obesity, their families, employers, neighbors, health practitioners and governments.

A 2010 report estimated that direct costs of overweight and obesity represented $6 billion – 4.1 % of Canada’s total health care budget. However, this estimate only accounts for health care costs related to obesity, and does not account for productivity loss, reductions in tax revenues or psychosocial costs.

Comprehensive public, private and non-governmental initiatives on obesity prevention and treatment are urgently needed. - Canadian Obesity Network

More jaw dropping stats…

According to the Heart and Stroke Foundation:

  • An estimated 1.6 million Canadians are living with heart disease or the effects of a stroke
  • In 2011, more than 66,000 Canadians died from heart disease or stroke.  That’s 1 person every 7 minutes.
  • Each year, more than 350,000 Canadians are hospitalized for heart disease or stroke

The solution…

Be part of the change. Take an active stance on reversing these statistics by proving a program that encourages a proactive approach to health. People need to know that health does not happen by chance or solely because of good genetics. In order to be healthy, one must first be informed.
